What Are Data Center Construction Jobs Paying in Northern Virginia Right Now, and Why Is It So Hard to Fill These Roles?

Northern Virginia remains the tightest, highest-paying data center construction market in the U.S. in 2026. Senior Project Managers are commanding $135K, $170K base; Senior Superintendents $130K, $165K; and Senior Schedulers $175K, $225K, typically 25-40% above comparable commercial construction roles. The premium exists because data center work demands live-site and live-power expertise. Outages, phasing, and cutover risk are mission-critical in ways standard commercial projects aren't. Hiring is concentrated in Ashburn, Chantilly, Manassas, Gainesville, and the broader Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William corridor, the nation's largest, most mature data center hub. The hardest-to-fill roles are PMs, superintendents, MEP leads, schedulers, QA/QC, commissioning, and field engineers. With the construction industry facing a 501,000-person workforce gap in 2026 (retirements, attrition, new demand), Northern Virginia's data center sector is competing aggressively for talent that simply isn't abundant.
