Who recruits for data center construction in Dallas-Fort Worth?
Amundson Group recruits the construction leaders who build data centers in Dallas-Fort Worth: superintendents, project managers, project engineers, MEP coordinators and commissioning leaders for the general contractors and trade partners working from Plano and Fort Worth down to Ellis County. We are a construction-only recruiter headquartered in Houston, veteran-owned and named to the Inc. 5000 in 2024 and 2025, with our deepest roots in Texas.
We recruit only for infrastructure and industrial-scale builders: data center, heavy civil, site development, paving, rail, tunnels, wastewater and underground utilities. We do not place commercial, multifamily or energy roles. That keeps our network inside the same field talent pool Dallas-Fort Worth campuses hire from.
Dallas-Fort Worth data center construction in 2026: the numbers
- 3,202 MW under construction at mid-2026, on top of 4,587 MW already built, per JLL. The market absorbed 2,297 MW and completed 2,164 MW in the first half of the year (Dallas Innovates, August 2026).
- More than 765 MW of colocation capacity under construction, about 95% preleased, plus 3.7 GW of planned projects on new sites (CBRE, H1 2026).
- About 282 GW of data center requests in Oncor’s transmission queue on June 30, 2026 (Oncor, Q2 2026 results).
- +4,200 jobs in mining, logging and construction in Fort Worth-Arlington-Grapevine (5%) and +3,900 in Dallas-Plano-Irving (2%), August 2025 to August 2026 (AGC).
Where the work is
New capacity is rising south of Dallas in Ellis County around Red Oak and in Lancaster, with more in Plano and Fort Worth. The newest frontier is Hood County near Tolar, about 45 miles from Fort Worth (Industrial Info Resources). In June 2026, ERCOT endorsed new transmission projects serving southern Dallas-Fort Worth and the I-35 corridor (Oncor).
Three examples show the scale. A 480 MW campus on 292 acres in Red Oak is planned for up to eight buildings, with two buildings of about $325 million each scheduled into 2028 (Data Center Dynamics). A two-building campus in Fort Worth worth more than $1 billion has its first building, about 70 MW, due at the end of 2026. Near Tolar, about 1,600 MW is planned across five campuses, with the first two set to start in 2026 (Industrial Info Resources).
The 2026 Texas grid audit
On August 3, 2026, Texas froze new data center grid connections pending a statewide audit of incentives, water use, on-site power generation and ownership (Akin Gump). ERCOT’s September update to its board says it is holding off on energizing new large data centers until the audit is done and is set to file its audit reports by December 10, 2026 (ERCOT).
The audit sits on top of rules Texas already adopted. SB 6, signed in June 2025, set grid connection, cost sharing and emergency cutoff rules for large loads, and ERCOT’s first large-load study group, known as Batch Zero, was approved in June 2026 (Akin Gump). For contractors, the question the audit raises is timing: when new campuses can connect.
What it means for hiring in Dallas-Fort Worth
The squeeze in Dallas-Fort Worth is people, not projects. On the survey’s data center questions, 71% of Texas respondents reported more competition for skilled workers and 67% reported more wage pressure. Statewide, 61% of surveyed firms raised craft pay faster than a year earlier, and 79% of contractors with superintendent openings call them hard to fill (AGC and NCCER 2026 Workforce Survey, Texas).
In our view, Dallas-Fort Worth has a deeper bench of adjacent talent than Phoenix or Atlanta: superintendents and project managers from mission-critical, high-tech manufacturing and healthcare work who can step into a data center role. In our 2026 read on Phoenix, Dallas and Atlanta, we called Dallas the most efficient market for building a data center team. Speed still decides searches here, because strong candidates hold more than one offer.
