Amundson Group
About This Role
Our client, a self-performing contractor specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure, is hiring Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers to support their growing Atlanta-area operations. This is a direct result of team expansion and attrition, not turnover issues. You’ll work on a mix of facility upgrades, expansions, and greenfield projects serving the metro Atlanta region with zero travel required.
What You Will Run
- Day-to-day project coordination and execution on wastewater treatment plant upgrades and expansions, primarily around live, operational facilities
- Submittals, shop drawings, purchase orders, and subcontractor management (PM-level candidates)
- Field coordination with trades, including the client’s in-house electrical crews
- Schedule tracking, budget oversight, and stakeholder communication on complex piping, concrete, and underground utility work
What It Takes
You need 2 to 5 years of hands-on construction experience on the contractor or builder side. Fresh graduates and senior PMs are not the fit here. Your background should be in water and wastewater construction, heavy civil, industrial, or utility work. DOT and commercial construction backgrounds work if you’ve got site work and concrete exposure.
Education required: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Science degree. Business and non-technical degrees are not a fit.
Green flags we look for: You’ve stayed at companies for 3+ years (job hopping every 1 to 2 years is a disqualifier). You have APM or Project Engineer titles showing upward movement. You’ve worked with complex piping, concrete structures, and underground utilities. You understand submittals and subcontractor workflows. You’ve been on the building side, not the inspection or design side.
Do not apply if your background is inspector work, owner-side or municipality-side only, or engineering and design roles claiming construction experience. These backgrounds have not worked out historically.
