Rarely. Contractors in heavy civil and site development want foremen and superintendents who have run crews in the dirt: pipe, grading, excavation, paving. Construction management coursework, military engineering experience or temporary bridge work gives useful background, but hiring managers will not put someone in charge of experienced crews they cannot guide. Expect to start in an entry-level, hands-on role at entry-level pay, prove yourself and move up. Leading an interview with classes rather than field accomplishments is a common way to lose a hiring manager early. Be realistic on salary, and ask what the path from the field to foreman looks like.
