Takeoffs, bid assembly and plan review can be done from anywhere, and some heavy civil and wastewater contractors now hire senior estimators on a remote or hybrid basis, particularly when they are expanding into a new region. Leadership roles are different. Chief estimator and preconstruction manager positions that run a team of estimators are usually required to be in the office, and contractors in smaller markets will offer relocation assistance before they offer remote. If relocating is not an option for you, say so early so the recruiter only brings you local, hybrid or remote searches that fit.
