Who recruits for data center construction in Austin and San Antonio?
Amundson Group recruits the construction leaders who build data centers in Austin, San Antonio and the Central Texas corridor: superintendents, project managers, project engineers, MEP coordinators and commissioning leaders for the general contractors and trade partners on these campuses. We are a construction-only recruiter headquartered in Houston, veteran-owned and named to the Inc. 5000 in 2024 and 2025, with our deepest roots in Texas.
We recruit only for infrastructure and industrial-scale builders: data center, heavy civil, site development, paving, rail, tunnels, wastewater and underground utilities. We do not place commercial, multifamily or energy roles. Central Texas data center sites hire from the same field talent pool as the state’s highway, utility and large site work, and that is the pool we recruit from.

Where the work is
Around Austin, developers are focused on the northeast suburbs (CBRE), and a large campus is under way in Milam County (Epoch AI). In San Antonio, a new data center is planned on the west side of the city (Spectrum News, March 2026).
A 1.2 GW campus in Milam County, northeast of Austin, was due to deliver its first building by October 2026 according to regulatory filings, and Epoch AI projects full build-out in late 2028 (Epoch AI). In San Antonio, a $65 million, 93,000 square foot data center on the west side is scheduled for construction from November 2026 to September 2028 (Spectrum News, March 2026).
Power and the 2026 Texas grid audit
Austin and San Antonio sit inside ERCOT, so the statewide pause on new data center grid connections applies here too, and ERCOT is set to file its audit reports by December 10, 2026 (Akin Gump; ERCOT). CPS Energy also added study fees for large power customers in 2026 (CPS Energy).
What it means for hiring in Austin and San Antonio
Electrical work is the bottleneck. Electrical subcontractors get 45% to 70% of a data center construction budget, according to the electricians’ union, and Texas has about 71,000 electricians to cover every project in the state (Texas Tribune, April 2026). Electrical project managers, electrical superintendents and commissioning leaders are the seats that decide schedules.
Central Texas contractors also compete with Dallas-Fort Worth and West Texas for the same people. On the AGC survey’s data center questions, 71% of Texas respondents reported more competition for skilled workers (AGC Texas results).
