Hiring for heavy civil, site development, paving, data center, rail, or wastewater work? Amundson Group is a construction-only recruiter. First qualified resumes in 7 hours. Send us the role or call (832) 558-7982.
Short answer: Amundson Group recruits the people who build airfields. We are a veteran-owned, construction-only recruiting firm headquartered in Houston, and airport work sits inside two of the sectors we recruit for every day, heavy civil and paving. We place airfield superintendents, project managers, project engineers, estimators, paving and concrete foremen, quality managers and safety managers for the contractors who build runways, taxiways, aprons and the utilities under them across the United States. Send us the role and the first qualified resumes arrive in about 7 hours on average, with a vetted shortlist in 7 days.
The airport work we recruit for
- Runways and taxiways: reconstruction, rehabilitation, extensions and shoulders, in asphalt and in concrete.
- Aprons and ramps: concrete apron replacement and expansion next to live gates and cargo areas.
- Airfield grading and drainage: earthwork, storm drainage, culverts and the safety areas at the ends of runways.
- Airfield utilities: water and sewer, storm lines, and the duct banks that carry airfield lighting and navigation aid cable.
- Landside site work: roadways, parking, and the site packages around terminal and cargo programs.
The roles we fill on an airport job
Airfield superintendents and general superintendents, project managers and project executives, project engineers and assistant project managers, estimators who price FAA specification work, paving and concrete foremen, grade checkers and surveyors, quality control managers who run the testing behind the FAA asphalt and concrete specifications, and safety managers who keep crews inside the construction safety and phasing plan on an operating airport.
What airport construction hires are paid at placement
Median base salary at the moment of hire, across our US construction placements, from the October 2026 release of the Amundson Group Construction Placement Pay Index:
- Superintendent: $112,200
- Project Manager: $112,500
- Estimator: $118,750
- Project Engineer: $93,340
- Safety Manager: $100,000
- Foreman: $87,200
These are national medians at hire across our construction placements, not airport only figures and not posted ranges. Night work, travel and per diem are priced on top of base.
Why airport construction hiring is hard in 2026
Airport work has steady federal money behind it. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law set aside $25 billion for aviation over five years, fiscal 2022 through 2026, including $15 billion in Airport Infrastructure Grants, and the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 raised the Airport Improvement Program to $4 billion a year starting in fiscal 2025. That money turns into runway, taxiway and apron packages that all need the same small group of people.
The work is also unlike a highway job. Crews work inside an active airport, often at night, under a construction safety and phasing plan, with badging, escorts and closures measured in hours. A superintendent who has handed a runway back on time, or a quality manager who has passed FAA asphalt and concrete acceptance testing, is usually running a job right now and not reading job boards. In the 2026 AGC and NCCER workforce survey, 82% of contractors had open salaried positions, and 87% of those firms said the positions were as hard or harder to fill.
How an airport search runs
- Intake: one call on the scope, the phasing, the crew, the schedule and the pay. One named recruiter owns the search from then on.
- Sourcing: it starts the night you send the role, across a network of 90,000+ construction professionals, aimed at people running airfield and heavy paving work for other contractors today.
- First resumes: about 7 hours on average from intake to the first qualified resume, and a vetted shortlist in 7 days.
- Screening: every candidate is screened on the work itself: runway and apron closures, night work, FAA specification paving and testing, phasing plans, badging, and the airport sponsors and engineers they have worked with.
- Offer and start: we manage the offer, the per diem and travel terms and the counteroffer risk, then check in at 30, 60 and 90 days after the start date. Placements carry a written replacement guarantee.
- Terms: retained and engaged search, agreed in writing before the search starts.
