Amundson Group
About This Role
Our client is a self-performing contractor specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure. They’re hiring mid-level Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers to support growth in the Metro Atlanta market. This is a direct result of team expansion, not turnover. You’ll own project execution on complex facility upgrades and expansions, working with live operational systems and managing subcontractors, submittals, and schedules on the contractor side of the work.
What You Will Run
- Day-to-day project management on water and wastewater treatment facility upgrades and expansions (roughly 75% of the work)
- Coordination with subcontractors, submittal reviews, shop drawings, and purchase orders
- Schedule management and progress tracking on projects in the Gwinnett County and greater Atlanta area
- Site coordination around live, operational facilities
- Field communication and problem-solving with crews and trades
What It Takes
You need 2 to 5 years of hands-on construction experience on the contractor or builder side. We’re not looking for fresh graduates or senior-level candidates; we’re looking for people with real legs under them.
Preferred background: Water and wastewater construction, heavy civil, or industrial work. Acceptable: Utility, DOT/transportation, or commercial construction, as long as you’ve been building, not inspecting or designing.
Required education: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management/Construction Science. Technical degrees only.
Green flags we look for: Tenure at previous employers (3+ years shows stability), APM or Project Engineer titles showing upward movement, experience with complex piping, concrete structures, or underground utilities, and exposure to submittals and subcontractor management.
We will not move forward with candidates from inspector, municipal, owner-side, or design/engineering backgrounds. This has not worked historically. We also pass on frequent job hoppers (every 1 to 2 years) and candidates unwilling to adjust salary expectations when transitioning from field roles.
Compensation
- APM / Junior PM: $90,000 to $110,000
- Project Manager: $110,000 to $120,000
- Car allowance: $1,000 to $1,100 per month (taxed as income) plus fuel card
Location and Travel
Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas within a one-hour radius. No travel required. All work is local and regional. Relocation candidates are considered but not the priority.
