The Role

A self-performing contractor is hiring a Utilities Superintendent to lead water and sewer construction projects across North Carolina. You will own personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, and quality on multiple crews and subcontractors. This is a full-time position where your experience directly impacts on-time, on-budget delivery.

What You Will Run

  • Supervise multiple crews and subcontractors on utility installation and construction work.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and schedules with crews to ensure proper execution and identify cost-saving measures.
  • Plan and coordinate material delivery, tool inventory, and equipment availability.
  • Inspect field conditions and work for compliance with contract documents. Point out deficiencies and direct corrective action.
  • Track quantities completed and monitor productivity rates against crew performance standards.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, enforce PPE compliance, and identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and NCDOT guidelines.
  • Maintain relationships with engineers, inspectors, and customers to keep projects moving and protect company reputation.

What It Takes

  • 7 to 10 years of related construction experience (combinations of work experience and education considered).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification.
  • Trenching safety and confined space certification.
  • First Aid/CPR training.
  • Current North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Ability to read plans, stakes, and interpret grade.
  • Strong communication skills with crews, customers, and site personnel.
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling, cost control, and crew supervision.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather, climb equipment, lift up to 70 pounds, and work overtime or weekends as needed.
