Survey Party Chief

A self-performing contractor is building out a new survey division and seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field crews across active construction projects throughout Texas and surrounding states. This is a mobile, road-based role ideal for someone comfortable with a dynamic field lifestyle and ready to own the quality and accuracy of construction layout work.

What You Will Run

You will lead a two-person survey crew performing construction layout surveying on civil and utility projects. Your primary focus is foundation layout work, including center-of-foundation and corner staking, executed to tight tolerances. You will operate Trimble GPS and robotic total station equipment, read construction plans, coordinate with site superintendents, and adapt to new teams and conditions on a weekly basis.

  • Lead two-person field survey crews on active construction sites
  • Perform construction layout with high accuracy and strict tolerances
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain Trimble GPS and robotic total station equipment
  • Read and interpret construction plans and drawings
  • Coordinate with superintendents and site personnel
  • Manage field logistics as part of a mobile crew
  • Complete project-specific onboarding and compliance modules as required

Where You Will Work

Preferred home base is the Dallas-Fort Worth area (Lewisville/Fort Worth office), though Houston or West Texas (Midland-Odessa) are also acceptable. Expect extensive travel. Typical schedule is drive to site Monday, work Tuesday through Thursday, return Friday. Extended project assignments may require Monday through Saturday on-site presence. Active and anticipated project regions include West Texas, East Texas, Houston corridor, Arkansas, Northern Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and areas around Waco, Temple, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi.

What It Takes

You should have hands-on experience in one or more of these areas: construction layout surveying (most preferred), heavy civil or heavy highway work, oil and gas field surveying, or foundation and site development layout. Proficiency with Trimble GPS and robotic total stations is essential. You must be able to troubleshoot field equipment, read construction plans, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Comfort with a road-heavy, mobile lifestyle similar to oil and gas field crews is important.
