Project Superintendent

A self-performing asphalt and roadway contractor in the Tampa area is hiring a Project Superintendent to own job sites from mobilization through completion. You will manage multiple crews across grading, milling, underground utilities, and asphalt operations on FDOT and municipal projects ranging from $250K to $50M. This is a hands-on leadership role that demands someone who can sequence work logically, keep crews safe and efficient, and adapt to shifting schedules including night work.

What You Will Run

• Full project scheduling and sequencing from start to finish, ensuring crews work in the right order without overlap or safety conflicts.
• Daily traffic control planning in Bluebeam, mapping equipment entry, exit, and staging areas for milling and resurfacing operations.
• Coordination of six discipline leads (grading, milling, asphalt, concrete, storm, traffic control) on a single active project.
• Staging logistics, including where milled asphalt gets transported and how the job flows day to day.
• Direct reporting to the Project Manager with full ownership of site operations and crew performance.
• 80 percent field time, 20 percent office work. Expect 50+ hour weeks and flexible scheduling, including extended night shifts when projects demand it.

What It Takes

• At least 5 years of supervision experience. Does not all have to be as a superintendent, but you need proven crew leadership.
• Asphalt background strongly preferred. Survey or engineering experience is a plus, since layout, plan reading, and site survey work are core to the role.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Bluebeam.
• Ability to read and execute complex project sequences. You understand that you don’t build the road before you install the pipe.
• Flexibility with shift work. You may run days for three months, then nights for a month. No set schedule.
• Local to Tampa area preferred. No relocation package.

The Work

Most projects run about one year. The portfolio is roughly 70 percent FDOT work and 30 percent city and county projects in Hillsborough County. You will be the single point of accountability for one project at a time, managing the full scope from underground utilities through final asphalt placement.
