Amundson Group
Senior Project Engineer – Arizona
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring Senior Project Engineers in Arizona who are ready to step into Project Manager roles fast. If you have 5-8 years in heavy civil construction and want real ownership of major infrastructure projects, this is a direct path to advancement.
What You Will Run
You will start as a Senior Project Engineer supporting large-scale heavy civil work: roadway, concrete, earthwork, paving, and infrastructure projects. Day one includes coordinating with field teams and subcontractors, managing RFIs and submittals, tracking schedules and budgets, and ensuring quality control.
The growth path is clear. High performers transition into full Project Manager roles, taking ownership of project planning, scheduling, financial performance, subcontractor management, and client relationships. You will move from supporting execution to driving delivery from preconstruction through closeout.
What It Takes
- 5-8 years in construction, ideally heavy civil (earthwork, roadway, concrete, infrastructure)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Experience with heavy civil contractors and large-scale or complex projects
- Comfort working in fast-paced, field-driven environments
- DOT experience and familiarity with state DOT processes strongly preferred
You are self-motivated, comfortable with ambiguity, and seek responsibility over rigid structure. You jump in and contribute immediately. You are willing to travel or relocate for project opportunities.
Where You Will Work
Work is project-driven and mobile. Assignments include Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Lake Havasu), other U.S. project sites, and potential international assignments. “Remote” means on-site at project locations, not work-from-home.
Comp and Benefits
Senior Project Engineer base: approximately $100K-$120K, based on experience. Project Manager compensation is competitive and based on experience and responsibility level, ranging $120K-$150K.
Project-based roles include per diem (approximately $120/day for domestic travel), company-paid temporary housing (hotel or Airbnb), and flexible arrangements. Relocation assistance is available.
The Role
This is not a static position. Leadership provides autonomy, not micromanagement. High performers run portions of projects independently, transition into Project Manager roles quickly, and take full ownership once proven capable. The company is fast-growing with immediate staffing needs across multiple active and upcoming projects.
