A self-performing heavy civil contractor with 50+ years of success is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction strategy on large-scale infrastructure projects across the western United States. This is a leadership role where your estimating expertise directly shapes winning bids on $50-100 million highway, bridge, and structural concrete projects.
What You Will Run
- Lead the full estimating process from proposal analysis through bid delivery, including scope definition, pre-bid meetings, and comprehensive takeoffs.
- Develop bottom-up estimates for complex heavy civil and highway projects, leveraging historical cost data and production records to establish accurate unit costs and labor hours.
- Present estimates and bidding strategies to senior leadership, owning both the numbers and the competitive positioning.
- Mentor junior estimators, sharing technical expertise and best practices to strengthen the estimating team.
- Maintain detailed documentation and organized files as backup for all estimate figures and assumptions.
- Stay current with industry trends, technical standards, and professional development through continued education and active participation in professional associations.
What It Takes
- 10+ years of heavy civil and highway estimating experience, preferably including underground utility work.
- Proven track record estimating projects in the $50-100 million range using bottom-up methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Advanced proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple complex estimates simultaneously.
- Confident communication and presentation skills for senior-level meetings.
- Ability to mentor and develop team members.
Comp and Benefits
Total compensation $130,000 to $180,000 annually, based on experience. This role offers clear pathways to leadership within preconstruction, a collaborative culture where expertise is valued, and the opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure projects that serve millions.
