Project Manager – Heavy Civil Bridge

A self-performing heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to own day-to-day operations on a major bridge project in Savannah, Georgia. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can hit the ground running, take meaningful responsibility off the Area Manager’s plate, and drive the project through its final 11-12 months. If you have strong bridge superintendent experience and want to step into an active, challenging project without a long ramp-up, this is worth a serious look.

What You Will Run

  • Day-to-day project operations in partnership with the Area Manager
  • Project scheduling, coordination, and schedule management
  • Forecasting, cost control, and financial management
  • RFI management, monthly reporting, and project-level documentation
  • Timesheet oversight and project administration
  • Materials coordination, subcontractor management, and production planning
  • Field operations and bridge crew coordination
  • Client, DOT, and stakeholder communication
  • Problem identification and resolution on operational challenges and delays

This is a true operational partnership role, not an administrative support position. You will be expected to own forecasting, scheduling, cost control, and day-to-day execution alongside the field team.

What It Takes

You need strong, directly relevant superintendent experience in heavy civil and bridge construction. Field engineering, material ordering, or administrative background alone will not fit this role. An APM with proven project management experience may be considered, but only if you have the depth to step in and lead immediately.

Marine and barge experience is a strong plus. All current bridge work is being performed off barges, and that familiarity will accelerate your effectiveness. Bridge experience is preferred, including exposure to post-tensioning work. The technical scope is generally straightforward for an experienced bridge superintendent, but you should be comfortable with the specialty aspects of this project.

You must be willing to relocate to Savannah. The company is open to providing hotel or housing accommodations to secure the right candidate.

About the Project

This is a major bridge project over the Wilmington River on the Islands Expressway connecting Savannah toward Tybee Island. Work is substantially performed from barges with self-performing bridge crews. Specialty subcontractors include divers and welders on an intermittent basis. Roadway scope is minimal. Approximately 11-12 months of work remain.

Long-Term Potential

For the right person, the Savannah assignment can be an entry point into a larger opportunity with the client’s growing North Florida operation. The Area Manager is building out a Jacksonville presence and expects to pursue major design-build work in the region. A strong performer could transition into that growing operation and become a key member of the North Florida team.
