The Role
A self-performing heavy highway contractor in New Mexico is looking for a Project Manager who can run roadway work from the ground up. You will manage excavation, hot mix asphalt, and aggregate operations across projects ranging from 15 to 40 million dollars. This is a role for someone who understands the full vertical integration of dirt work, material crushing, and asphalt placement, and who can lead crews of 20 to 100 people with confidence and autonomy.
What You Will Run
- Full project management of heavy highway and roadway construction, including excavation, hot mix asphalt paving, and aggregate operations
- Coordination of 3 to 5 subcontractors and internal crews ranging from 20 to 100 workers depending on project phase
- Schedule and budget management on county and city work
- DOT compliance, pipe placement, and material specifications
- Equipment fleet oversight, including owned and leased assets
- Direct communication with leadership and field teams across multiple active jobsites
What It Takes
You need hands-on experience in heavy highway construction. A background in excavation, asphalt paving, or aggregate operations is essential. Understanding of crushers, gradations, hot plant operations, and dirt work is a massive plus. You should be comfortable with DOT work and have managed crews on similar-scale projects.
This role requires travel. You will be based in New Mexico and working within a few hours of headquarters most of the time. The company provides lodging during the week (1,400 per month) and a daily travel allowance (75 per day). They are looking for people who don’t mind being away from home during the work week and can commit to the job without distraction.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can operate autonomously, bring themselves up to speed quickly, and step in to help across multiple areas when needed. You should be old school, reliable, and someone the leadership team can trust completely.
Comp and Benefits
95,000 to 125,000 per year, depending on experience. Lodging and travel allowance provided during the work week.
