The Role

A growing, self-performing heavy civil contractor in Virginia is hiring a Project Manager to step in immediately. This is a backfill created by an urgent departure, and the company is also considering a second PM hire given their current growth rate. You will own 3 to 4 concurrent projects, manage full-site packages from earthwork through underground utilities, and drive accuracy from day one. This is an office-based, high-accountability role where process and follow-through are non-negotiable.

What You Will Run

3 to 4 concurrent projects at any given time, reduced to 2 to 3 for large-scale work in the $25M to $30M range
Full-site package scopes including earthwork and underground utilities, all sizes
Project setup, job costing, and coding in the project management system
Change orders, takeoffs, and plan reading
Coordination across accounting, field foremen, and subcontractors to ensure accurate job cost reconciliation
One shared Project Engineer, recently promoted from estimating

What It Takes

Earthwork and underground utilities experience is a must. Full site package background strongly preferred.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational and clerical discipline
Ability to read and mark up construction plans
Change order management and takeoff experience
Strong attention to detail. Project setup must be done correctly on the front end, coding, system entry, subcontractor coordination. Accurate setup drives everything downstream through accounting and job cost.
No shortcuts mentality
Comfortable working in-office, daily. This is 90 to 95% office-based, not field-heavy.

Also Strongly Considered

Senior Estimators ready for a PM promotion. Candidates with 5 to 10 years of estimating experience who are ready to grow into project management will be seriously considered. The company is open to coaching the right person up.

Software & Tools

Spectrum (project management and accounting) – required, will train
Bluebeam (plan reading and markups) – required
HeavyJob by HCSS (field timekeeping) – familiarity preferred, very user-friendly
HCSS HeavyBid (estimating) – big plus, especially for estimator-track candidates

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $100,000 (senior estimator/growth track) up to $135,000 plus (experienced PM), up to $150,000 for a standout candidate
Bonus: 10% of base salary, tied to agreed-upon KPIs. Flexible structure, can adjust base/incentive split.
Company vehicle provided with personal use to and from home and job sites permitted
Fuel card included with vehicle

Work Environment

Fast-paced, high-accountability culture where processes and follow-through matter. In-person, in-office environment. Candidates must be comfortable working from the office daily.
