A self-performing heavy civil and mining contractor is expanding operations at an active mine site in the Winnemucca, Nevada area and needs a Project Engineer to support a growing team. This is a 6-month full-time field role with potential for continued work on future projects, offering up to $100,000 annually plus company-provided housing and travel support.
This is not a management position. We’re looking for a junior to mid-level engineer or early-career professional with hands-on construction experience who is ready to get boots on the ground, learn fast, and contribute meaningfully from day one. You’ll work directly under an experienced on-site Project Manager in a collaborative, easygoing team environment where results matter more than titles.
What You Will Run
- Day-to-day project administration, documentation, and field coordination
- Project scheduling, submittals, RFIs, and correspondence
- Cost tracking, quantity management, and progress reporting using company software
- Coordination with field crews, subcontractors, and owner representatives
- Compliance documentation for DOT and county road construction requirements
- Support across multiple concurrent scopes: roadwork, pipe, excavation, and crushing operations
- Accurate project record keeping and reporting
What It Takes
- Background in heavy civil, mining, or related construction with hands-on field experience
- General project engineering or project management experience
- Willingness and ability to travel and relocate to future project sites as needed
- Strong work ethic and a “show up and get it done” attitude
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, and HCSS HeavyJob
Preferred Background
- DOT or county road construction project experience
- Mine site construction operations familiarity
- Degree or coursework in construction management or civil engineering (field experience equally valued)
- Local to the Winnemucca or Elko area (relocation assistance available for strong candidates)

- Salary up to $100,000 depending on experience

The Role and Environment
You’ll be based at an on-site field office approximately 45 minutes from Winnemucca, Nevada. The team is collaborative and field-driven. Your Project Manager brings extensive heavy civil experience and manages with a laid-back, supportive approach. This is a role for someone genuinely hungry to grow in construction. Education matters less than real-world experience and a strong work ethic.
