Project Engineer – El Paso, TX

  • Full Time
  • Texas
  • 75000-110000 USD / Year

Amundson Group

A self-performing heavy civil contractor in El Paso is hiring a Project Engineer to support a major TxDOT bridge and interchange reconstruction project. This is a field-forward role that blends hands-on construction coordination with project controls work. If you have 2-5+ years in highway or bridge construction and want to grow with a lean, promotion-focused team, this is worth your time.

What You Will Run

You will work directly under the Project Manager on an 18-month TxDOT project involving bridge reconstruction, concrete and asphalt paving, and major structural work. This is not a desk job. You will split your time between the field and the office, managing day-to-day coordination and problem-solving.

  • Process RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
  • Assist with project planning, work sequencing, and schedule updates
  • Support cost tracking and project controls
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams
  • Be present in the field to support construction activities and quality control
  • Help identify and resolve field issues before they become problems
  • Maintain accurate project records per TxDOT requirements

What It Takes

You need 2-5+ years as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager in heavy civil construction. TxDOT or similar DOT highway and bridge experience is strongly preferred. You should have a background in highway construction, bridge and structural work, or concrete and asphalt paving. Commercial building experience alone will not work here.

You are a self-starter who understands construction sequencing and can manage responsibilities without constant direction. You are comfortable working both in the field and the office. You communicate clearly with field staff, inspectors, and leadership. You have strong organizational skills and a team-oriented work ethic. Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful but not required.

This role requires a commitment to long-term employment. The company values stability and promotes from within.

Schedule and Work Environment

Primarily day work. Occasional night or weekend work may be required due to TxDOT bridge closures or special shutdowns, such as periodic 48-hour weekend closures. The project yard and jobsite are located near Montana Ave and Loop 375 in El Paso.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary: $75,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

Project-based bonus structure.

Vehicle: Your choice of a company vehicle or a vehicle allowance of approximately $750 per month. Fuel is covered in both scenarios. Maintenance is covered, including oil changes and annual tire service or as needed.

Full benefits package consistent with the company’s other offices. Relocation assistance available for the right candidate on a reimbursement basis.

About the Company

Our client is a growing heavy civil and infrastructure contractor in the El Paso market with consistent 20-30% annual growth. The team operates lean, values long-term employment, and promotes from within whenever possible.
