Project Engineer – Heavy Civil Construction
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is expanding operations at an active mine site in the Winnemucca, Nevada area and needs a junior to mid-level Project Engineer ready to get boots on the ground. This is a 6-month field role with potential for continued work on future projects, offering hands-on experience across multiple construction scopes including road construction, pipe, excavation, and crushing operations.
What You Will Run
- Day-to-day project administration, documentation, and coordination under the on-site Project Manager
- Project scheduling, submittals, RFIs, and correspondence management
- Cost tracking, quantity management, and progress reporting using company software platforms
- Field crew and subcontractor coordination with owner representatives
- DOT and road construction compliance documentation
- Accurate project record keeping and reporting across multiple concurrent work scopes
What It Takes
- Background in heavy civil, mining, or related construction with hands-on field experience
- General project engineering or project management experience
- Willingness and ability to travel and relocate to future project sites
- Strong work ethic and reliable daily presence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, and HCSS HeavyJob
- DOT or county road construction experience preferred
- Mine site construction familiarity preferred
- Construction management or civil engineering degree preferred but not required if you have relevant field experience
The Role and Environment
This is not a Project Manager position. We are looking for someone early in their career, eager to learn, and ready to contribute meaningfully from day one. You will work directly under an experienced on-site Project Manager in a collaborative, easygoing team environment where results matter more than appearances. The field office is located approximately 45 minutes from Winnemucca, Nevada, and the role requires full-time on-site presence with travel as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary up to $100,000 depending on experience
- Company-provided housing during project duration
- Vehicle allowance consistent with company standards
