A self-performing contractor in Mississippi is building out their preconstruction team and looking for a Preconstruction Manager to own pursuits end to end. From early pricing conversations through handoff to the field, you’ll turn drawings and specs into bids that are both competitive and honest about what a project will really take. This is where accuracy meets accountability: get the estimate right, and everything downstream starts on solid footing.
What You Will Run
Own the Bid
- Guide pursuits from initial strategy through pre-bid meetings, site walks, and scope development
- Build and submit proposals that are accurate, well-organized, and competitive
- Serve as a straightforward point of contact for clients, architects, and contractors with no surprises
- Hand off awarded projects cleanly to the operations team
Build the Numbers
- Take off quantities directly from plans and specs
- Price labor, equipment, overhead, and insurance for each scope
- Look for smarter materials or methods that hold quality while trimming cost
- Keep pricing databases and historical cost records current and useful
Manage Trade Relationships
- Reach out to subcontractors and suppliers for pricing and coverage
- Compare and level bids to build a clear, defensible number
- Grow relationships with trade partners over time, built on follow-through and reliability
- Stay aligned with Purchasing, Accounting, and Project Management so estimates hold up once work starts
Watch the Risk
- Flag exposure from material delays, price swings, weather, and site conditions
- Factor safety realistically into scope and sequencing during site walks and takeoffs
- Track market and industry pricing trends to keep estimates realistic
Support the Team
- Mentor and help develop other estimating staff as needed
- Bring people along rather than carrying the workload solo
What It Takes
- 5 or more years of commercial construction estimating experience across hard bid, design-build, and negotiated work
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Comfortable working across every phase of a project, from early pre-planning through closeout
- A track record that shows up in the numbers: satisfied clients, few budget disputes, healthy margins, and on-time delivery
- Fluency with estimating software, drawings, specifications, contracts, and cost coding
- Experience guiding or mentoring other estimators is a plus

Compensation
$100,000 to $130,000 per year.
