A self-performing contractor is hiring a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their maintenance team in North Carolina. You’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, keeping operations running safely and efficiently across construction and related sectors. This role offers hands-on work with state-of-the-art equipment and a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.
What You Will Run
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on excavators, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial machinery using OEM specifications and schematics.
- Execute routine maintenance: oil changes, filter replacements, tire services, brake repairs, transmission servicing, hydraulic troubleshooting, suspension adjustments, and engine overhauls.
- Fabricate custom parts and modifications using welding, soldering, hand tools, and power tools to meet operational needs.
- Inspect equipment for wear and tear, perform alignments, and conduct air brake system checks to ensure safety compliance.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and automotive diagnostics on heavy machinery using specialized testing equipment.
- Assist with heavy lifting operations for equipment assembly and disassembly.
- Maintain detailed service records and repair logs in compliance with safety standards and OEM guidelines.
What It Takes
- Proven experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance across diverse machinery types.
- Dealership experience preferred, especially with Caterpillar equipment, OEM parts, and factory repair procedures.
- Strong fabrication skills including welding and soldering; comfortable with power tools.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, suspension systems, and tire service.
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately.
- Electrical troubleshooting and automotive diagnostics experience.
- Physically capable of heavy lifting and working in demanding environments for extended periods.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members.
Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 per year.
