A self-performing contractor in North Carolina is hiring a Grading/Utilities Estimator to own cost estimates and budget management on active projects. You’ll report directly to the Project Manager, bringing technical depth in takeoffs and contract negotiation to a team that values accuracy and collaboration. This is a hands-on role where your estimating work directly impacts project profitability and delivery.
What You Will Run
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and feasibility studies from blueprints and schematics
- Read and interpret technical manuals, plans, and construction documents
- Negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors and material vendors
- Apply budgeting and cost control principles to keep projects on financial targets
- Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, and field teams
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and quality standards
- Stay current with federal, state, and local construction codes
- Organize resources, prioritize competing tasks, and support team communication
What It Takes
- Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in grading and/or utility construction
- Proficiency in Agtek, HCSS, and Bluebeam (required)
- Strong knowledge of applicable construction codes and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail with ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team-oriented mindset
- Customer-focused approach and willingness to grow into leadership
