A self-performing heavy civil contractor in the Dallas Fort Worth area is hiring a Junior Estimator to join their estimating team. This is a genuine entry-level role designed for early-career professionals or career changers who are analytical, detail-oriented, and ready to learn the full bid lifecycle from the ground up. You’ll grow into a full estimator role within roughly six months, with clear mentorship and a structured path forward.
What You Will Run
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with material and labor calculations from plans and specifications
- Review bid documents and support senior estimators during bid preparation
- Conduct cost analysis, bid breakdowns, and maintain bid logs and historical cost data
- Collaborate with operations and field teams to understand constructability and real-world project execution
- Transition into full bid preparation responsibilities within your first six months
- Participate in optional field rotations to build operational perspective and become a well-rounded construction professional
What It Takes
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, Civil Engineering strongly preferred (other engineering disciplines considered)
- Entry-level to junior experience; estimating experience is not required
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with comfort working spreadsheets and technical documents
- Genuine curiosity about how projects are built, not just priced
- Coachable, adaptable mindset and willingness to learn a specific estimating methodology
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Preferred: HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and strong Excel proficiency
Comp and Benefits
- Base salary: $75,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on background and qualifications
- Target bonus potential up to approximately 10% of base salary
- Benefits aligned with company-wide standards
The Role
This is a full-time, in-office position (Monday through Friday) in the Estimating Department, reporting to the Chief Estimator. You will receive hands-on training from experienced estimators and gain exposure to the complete heavy civil bid lifecycle. The goal is to develop you into a confident, capable estimator while building your understanding of both estimating and field operations.
