Field Engineer – Sarasota, FL
Our client, a self-performing contractor, is hiring a Field Engineer for a major DOT design-build project in the Sarasota area. This is a hands-on role that splits time between the field and office, supporting a $77M infrastructure initiative through 2029. If you have 1-3 years of construction experience and want to grow on a significant project, this is a solid opportunity.
What You Will Run
- Field and office work in roughly equal measure, with primary focus on project engineering and field support
- Coordinate with 1-2 subcontractors and manage day-to-day field operations
- Read and interpret FDOT plans, specifications, and bridge design requirements
- Support submittals, change orders, and RFI coordination under senior management guidance
- Order materials and manage project logistics
- Work Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5:40 PM, with occasional night work and rare weekend shifts as needed
What It Takes
- 1-3 years of field or project engineering experience in heavy civil or highway construction
- Solid understanding of FDOT plans and ability to interpret bridge work and calculations
- Experience with project management software, particularly HCSS
- Self-directed, accountable, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- A degree in construction management or civil engineering is ideal but not required if you have relevant field experience
Nice to Have
- Experience on projects valued at $100M or larger
- Background in concrete or pile driving work
- FDOT bridge project experience
- Bilingual capabilities
Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 annually, based on experience.
