Field Engineer – Sarasota, FL
Our client, a self-performing contractor, is hiring a Field Engineer for a major DOT design-build project in the Sarasota area. This is a hands-on role that splits your time between the field and office, managing subcontractors and supporting project delivery on a $77M infrastructure job running through 2029. If you have 1-3 years of construction experience and want to grow into a leadership position with real autonomy and accountability, this is a solid opportunity.
What You Will Run
- Manage 1-2 subcontractors on site, with a 60/40 split between field presence and office support
- Read and interpret FDOT plans, including bridge calculations and specifications
- Order materials and coordinate logistics to keep the project moving
- Support senior management with submittals, change orders, and RFIs
- Work Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5:40 PM, with occasional night work and rare weekend shifts as needed
What It Takes
- 1-3 years of field or project engineering experience in heavy civil or construction
- Solid understanding of FDOT plans and DOT project requirements
- Comfort with project management software, specifically HCSS
- The ability to work independently, take ownership, and do what it takes to get the job done
- A degree in construction management or civil engineering is ideal but not required if you have relevant field experience
Nice to Have
- Experience on projects $100M or larger
- Background in concrete or pile driving work
- FDOT bridge experience and ability to calculate bridge scope
- Bilingual capability
Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 annually, based on experience.
