A self-performing contractor in the civil and environmental space is hiring a Sitework Estimator to join their growing team in Raleigh. This is a hands-on role where you will own the full bid lifecycle, from document review through post-award support, working alongside experienced estimators and project managers on complex construction projects across multiple states.
What you will run
You will prepare detailed estimates for competitive bids, managing everything from quantity takeoffs and vendor coordination to bid day execution and post-award handoffs. Your work directly impacts which projects the company pursues and how they are priced.
- Review bid documents, plans, specifications, and addenda to understand scope and requirements for your assigned divisions.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather project-specific information.
- Solicit and track quotes from subcontractors and vendors, managing timelines and follow-up.
- Perform quantity surveys and assemble detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontract line items.
- Prepare and present estimates at plan reviews and bid reviews with management.
- Maintain and leverage vendor and subcontractor databases to evaluate pricing and self-performance opportunities.
- Support bid day coordination and provide real-time estimate updates to the bid sponsor.
- On awarded projects, transfer estimate data to project teams and respond to questions during mobilization and value engineering.
- Attend weekly estimating meetings and collaborate with the estimating team on complex, overlapping bids.
- Visit active projects to observe construction and refine future estimates based on field reality.
What it takes
- 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and related experience.
- 2 years of estimating, engineering, or sitework construction experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, excavation, deep foundations, dewatering, and construction means and methods.
- Proficiency with Agtek, Viewpoint EstimatingPro, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and Outlook.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Strong math and analytical skills to calculate quantities and costs accurately.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate across estimators, managers, and external partners.
- Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Willingness to learn and share knowledge with other estimators.
- Must be 18 years old, pass a drug test, and be legally eligible to work in the US.
