Amundson Group
A self-performing contractor in the civil and environmental space is hiring a Sitework Estimator to join their growing team in Raleigh. This is a hands-on role where you will own estimates from bid through project closeout, working directly with management, subcontractors, and vendors to win and deliver complex projects. If you have 2+ years of estimating experience, a solid grasp of earthwork and site construction, and the discipline to manage multiple bids at once, this is worth a conversation.
What You Will Run
- Lead quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for assigned divisions on civil and sitework projects, from initial bid documents through plan reviews and bid day.
- Manage vendor and subcontractor outreach, collect quotes, and build comparison spreadsheets to evaluate self-perform versus subcontract decisions.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather project-specific information and clarify scope with bid sponsors.
- Coordinate with the estimating team on complex bids, flag issues early, and prepare bid day support materials.
- Hand off awarded projects to project teams, respond to post-award questions, and support value engineering and change order analysis.
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors; visit active projects to refine future estimates based on real construction experience.
- Participate in weekly estimating meetings and mentor other estimators as the team grows.
What It Takes
- 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and hands-on experience.
- 2+ years of estimating, engineering, or related sitework construction experience.
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, excavation, deep foundations, dewatering, and excavation support systems.
- Proficiency in Agtek, Viewpoint EstimatingPro, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and Outlook.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents with precision.
- Solid math skills and the discipline to track costs, manage databases, and analyze labor productivity.
- Excellent communication and people skills; you will work cross-functionally with estimators, managers, subs, and vendors.
- Proactive, organized, and comfortable juggling multiple estimates and proposals simultaneously.
- Must be 18+, legally eligible to work in the US, and able to pass a drug test. This is a drug-free workplace and E-Verify employer.
Why This Matters
You will be part of a veteran-owned firm that values accuracy, relationships, and long-term thinking. Your estimates directly impact project profitability and team success. You will have real influence over bid strategy and will see your work move from paper to dirt.
