A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring an Estimator to lead preconstruction efforts on a growing backlog of TXDOT and infrastructure projects across Central Texas. This is a fully in-office role for someone with deep local market knowledge and proven success bidding public work in the region.
What you will run
You will own the complete estimating process from drawings through bid submission. This is not a quantity takeoff role. You will prepare detailed, competitive cost estimates independently, coordinate subcontractor and supplier outreach, review proposals for accuracy and compliance, and identify scope gaps and risks before they become problems. You will work multiple bids simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines, collaborate with Operations and Project Management teams, and ensure all work meets TXDOT and public bidding regulations. Post-award, you will transfer estimate and scope information to the project execution team.
What it takes
- Minimum 4+ years of heavy civil or infrastructure estimating experience (Junior or Senior level)
- TXDOT estimating experience required
- Proven track record preparing and submitting bids independently
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong understanding of heavy highway and infrastructure scopes: earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete
- Proficiency with HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel, Word, and ideally Primavera
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Local to San Antonio or Austin with strong Central Texas market knowledge
- Detail-oriented, analytical, deadline-driven, with strong communication and negotiation skills
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative office environment with a long-term mindset
