Amundson Group
The Role
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is building out their estimating team in North Carolina and looking for experienced Estimators to join a growing operation. If you have 3 to 10 years of estimating experience in roads, bridges, utilities, or water treatment, this is a chance to work on large-scale projects across multiple states with a company that invests in your growth.
What You Will Run
- Read plans and specifications to understand project scope on heavy civil work.
- Perform takeoffs using Agtek or Trimble software.
- Review documents in Bluebeam and build quantities in Excel.
- Transition estimates into HCSS Heavy Bid for pricing and bid assembly.
- Work within estimating groups of three, typically handling two to three estimates at once.
- Participate in bid reviews, closing meetings, and cross-functional coordination with scheduling and proposal teams.
- Engage in training modules and pursuit preparation as the company expands.
What It Takes
- 3 to 10 years of estimating experience, preferably in heavy civil (roads, bridges, power, water treatment plants).
- 2 to 3 years in Project Engineer or Project Manager roles is a strong plus.
- Proficiency with Agtek or Trimble, Bluebeam, Excel, and HCSS Heavy Bid.
- Solid understanding of estimating processes and project build-up methodology.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred but not required.
- Field experience (PE, FE, or similar background) is valued.
- Ability to work in-office and engage with team-based estimating structure.
Why This Matters
The company is expanding aggressively, with plans to hire up to five estimators in this office. You will have clear advancement into Senior Estimator roles, exposure to large-scale civil projects across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Connecticut, and Georgia, and full immersion training in the company’s proven estimating process. Strong backlog and stable leadership mean real job security. The company values achievement and progression over credentials alone.
Location and Schedule
Office-based position in Shelby, North Carolina, off I-40, about 45 minutes from the main hub. Standard estimating office hours with in-office expectation. Some work-from-home flexibility exists, but estimators are expected in the office regularly.
Comp and Benefits
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. The company offers an ESOP program and a full benefits package. Strong backlog and expansion plans provide career stability and growth opportunity.
