A self-performing heavy civil contractor in North Carolina is hiring a Site Work Estimator to join their Apex office. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands dirt work, knows how to read a site plan, and can build accurate estimates from the ground up. If you’ve spent years in the field or in estimating for a GC that runs its own crews, this is your next move.
What You Will Run
You will own the estimating process for site work on wastewater infrastructure and heavy civil projects across the Southeast. This means takeoffs, crew productivity analysis, equipment costs, and material pricing. You will work directly with project teams to validate estimates before bids go out, and your numbers will drive how projects get staffed and scheduled.
You are not a junior paper-pusher. You understand site logistics, earthwork sequencing, and what it actually costs to move dirt and build infrastructure. You have seen enough projects to know when an estimate is realistic and when it needs a second look.
What It Takes
- 5+ years in estimating or field leadership at a self-performing general contractor (someone who runs their own crews and equipment, not a GC that subs everything out)
- Deep knowledge of site work, earthmoving, and civil construction methods
- Experience estimating wastewater treatment plant or heavy infrastructure projects is a strong plus
- Ability to read plans, specs, and site conditions and translate them into accurate costs
- Honest about mistakes and committed to quality over cutting corners
- Stable work history. Job-hoppers need not apply. This client values people who stay and build something
Comp and Benefits
100,000 to 140,000 per year, depending on experience.
401k contribution, medical, dental, and vision coverage. Summer bonuses. Most projects run 4-day, 10-hour schedules. The company intentionally overstaffs projects to prevent burnout. If you are relocating to the area, they will cover your move.
