The Role

A self-performing civil construction contractor in San Antonio is hiring an experienced Estimator to lead preconstruction on paving, utilities, concrete, and underground projects. This is a 100% office-based role where you will own the bid process from document review through final pricing, working directly with the VP of Estimating and leadership team. If you have 5+ years estimating civil construction and want to work for a stable, family-led firm with real self-perform capability, this is a strong fit.

What You Will Run

• Request and organize all bid documents: plans, specs, quantities, CAD, geotechnical reports, and site conditions.
• Analyze specifications, drawings, schedules, and bid requirements. Coordinate with business development on special insurance, bonds, and compliance items.
• Conduct quantity take-offs and determine if test-holes or additional site investigation is needed.
• Review cost history and subcontractor quotes to identify low bids and verify scope coverage.
• Submit engineer questions on schedule and track all addendums through to final bid.
• Pre-review completed bids with the head of estimating and implement final changes.
• Maintain competitive intelligence and coordinate with subcontractors throughout the process.

What It Takes

• Minimum 5 years of civil construction estimating experience (paving, utilities, concrete, underground required).
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
• Proficiency in HCSS and Microsoft Office.
• Entrepreneur mindset: driven, self-motivated, coachable, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
• Team player who can mentor and collaborate across departments.
• Stable work history. No job hoppers without clear explanation.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to San Antonio. No remote work.
• Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Comp and Benefits

• Base salary: $80,000 to $160,000 per year, based on experience.
• 401k match: 4%.
• Paid time off: 2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick leave (eligible after 6 months, negotiable).

They self-perform grading, utilities, paving, drainage, and related work with in-house crews and equipment. They deliver projects for municipalities, state agencies, developers, and large commercial and industrial clients. Leadership is stable, with an average tenure of 15 years among the management team.
