A self-performing heavy civil contractor is building out its estimating team in North Carolina and looking for experienced estimators ready to grow into senior roles. If you have 3 to 10 years of estimating experience in roads, bridges, utilities, or water treatment, this is a chance to join a stable, expanding operation with real advancement potential and strong internal training.
What You Will Run
You will own the full estimating workflow on civil projects across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Connecticut, and Georgia. Your day includes reading plans and specs, performing takeoffs in Agtek or Trimble, building quantities in Excel, and pricing estimates in HCSS Heavy Bid. You will work in a three-person estimating group handling two to three estimates at once, participate in bid closing meetings, and interface with scheduling, proposal, and project teams. Full onboarding immersion will teach you the company’s process and systems.
What It Takes
- 3 to 10 years of heavy civil estimating experience (roads, bridges, utilities, water treatment, power).
- Proficiency in Agtek or Trimble for takeoffs, Bluebeam for document review, Excel, and HCSS Heavy Bid.
- 2 to 3 years of PE or PM experience is a strong plus.
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred but not required.
- Field background (PE, FE, or hands-on project experience) is valued.
- Demonstrated career progression and commitment beyond academics.
- Ability to work in-office with a collaborative team and absorb training quickly.
Growth and Stability
The company is expanding its estimating team from one to five estimators in this office, creating a clear path from Estimator to Senior Estimator. You will have strong mentorship, exposure to large-scale civil projects across multiple states, and investment in your development. The operation has a solid backlog and stable leadership structure with corporate support.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $90,000 to $110,000 per year. The company offers an ESOP program, full benefits package, and a standard office schedule with some work-from-home flexibility (estimators expected in-office). Location is Shelby, North Carolina, off I-40, about 45 minutes from the main hub.
