Director of Operations

A self-performing infrastructure and commercial construction contractor in central Virginia is searching for a Director of Operations to lead day-to-day execution across multiple multimillion-dollar projects in schools, commercial development, and underground utilities. This is an owner-level role reporting directly to senior leadership, where you will be the right hand of the executive team, making critical decisions and ensuring quality, safety, and profitability across a growing portfolio. What You Will Run

• Oversee daily operations and project execution across multiple concurrent jobs
• Direct and mentor field crews and project teams, providing hands-on leadership when needed
• Manage project budgets, resource allocation, change orders, and scheduling
• Interface directly with clients, owners, and inspectors to resolve issues and provide updates
• Track operational and financial performance, reporting metrics to ownership
• Step into field problem-solving and estimating support during critical phases

What It Takes

• Executive-level experience in mid-sized construction or infrastructure companies (VP or Project Executive level minimum)
• Extensive field operations background, not just project management from an office
• Proven track record of successful project delivery; consecutive project failures are disqualifying
• Hands-on understanding of construction logistics, crew management, and day-to-day field realities
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills under pressure
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam
• Experience managing change orders, scheduling, budgeting, and client relationships

Comp and Benefits

• Base salary: $120,000 to $150,000 per year
