Project Manager – Heavy Civil Bridge

Our client, a self-performing heavy civil contractor, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to own day-to-day operations on a major bridge project in Savannah, Georgia. This is a leadership role for someone ready to step into an active, challenging project and drive it through its final 11-12 months of work. If you have strong bridge superintendent experience and want to make a real operational impact, this is worth a serious look.

What You Will Run

  • Manage day-to-day project operations in partnership with the Area Manager, serving as a true operational partner rather than administrative support.
  • Own project scheduling, day-to-day schedule coordination, and RFI management.
  • Drive forecasting activities and participate in regular forecast reviews.
  • Oversee cost control, financial management, and monthly project reporting.
  • Manage timesheets and project-level administration.
  • Coordinate with field operations, bridge crews, materials, subcontractors, and project requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication with the client, DOT representatives, and project stakeholders.
  • Identify and resolve project issues, delays, and operational challenges in real time.

About the Project

This is a major bridge project over a river in the Savannah area. Work is performed substantially from barges, with bridge crews primarily self-performing. The scope includes post-tensioning work, specialty divers and welders on an intermittent basis, and minimal roadway components. Approximately 11-12 months of work remain.

What It Takes

You need strong, hands-on superintendent experience in heavy civil and bridge construction. This is not a fit for candidates whose background is primarily field engineering, material ordering, or administrative support. You should be able to hit the ground running without significant training.

Bridge experience is preferred. Marine or barge experience is a strong plus given the project’s execution method, but not required. The technical work is generally straightforward for an experienced bridge superintendent, though familiarity with post-tensioning is valuable.

An Assistant Project Manager with directly relevant, strong project management experience may be considered, but only if you have proven operational leadership in bridge or heavy civil work.

Location and Relocation

Based in Savannah, Georgia. Relocation is expected. Our client is open to providing hotel or housing accommodations to secure the right candidate.

Long-Term Opportunity

For the right person, this Savannah assignment can be an entry point into a larger opportunity with our client’s growing North Florida operation. The Area Manager is building out a Jacksonville presence and expects to pursue major design-build work in the region. A strong performer could transition into that growing operation and become a key member of the North Florida team.
