Superintendent

The Role

A self-performing asphalt and roadway contractor is hiring a Project Superintendent to own large-scale FDOT and municipal projects across the Tampa Bay area. You will manage complex, multi-discipline job sites from start to finish, coordinating crews and keeping projects on schedule and safe. This is hands-on field leadership with real P&L responsibility.

What You Will Run

You will be the superintendent on one active project at a time, managing 6 discipline leads (grading, milling, asphalt, concrete, storm, traffic control) and overseeing the full sequence from mobilization through completion. Most projects run about one year and range from 250k to 50M in value.

• Schedule the job and coordinate different trades so crews work efficiently and safely without conflicts
• Create daily traffic control plans in Bluebeam showing equipment entry, exit, and staging areas
• Manage the sequence of work (you know you don’t build the road before you put in the pipe)
• Report directly to the Project Manager and own the job from beginning to end
• Work 80 percent in the field, 20 percent in the office

What It Takes

We care more about skills than a specific title. You need at least 5 years of supervision experience, though not all of it has to be as a superintendent. Asphalt experience is a strong plus. A background in survey or engineering is valuable because much of this role is layout, plan reading, and site coordination.

• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Bluebeam
• Ability to manage multiple crews and disciplines on one project
• Flexibility with schedule: you will work days and nights depending on project needs. Some jobs run nights for a month, then days for a month. No set schedule.
• Willingness to work 50+ hours per week
• Local to Tampa area preferred, no relocation package

The Work Environment

About 70 percent of work is FDOT projects, 30 percent is city and county work (Hillsborough County). You will be based in Tampa with no travel required. Night work is required and schedules shift based on project demands and traffic control windows.

This is a growing team. The company has just hired their 13th superintendent and is bringing you on as the 14th. You will report to the Project Manager and work alongside experienced foremen and crews.
