Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager
A self-performing contractor is hiring a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager to lead day-to-day operations on a large-scale City of Houston street repair and infrastructure program. This is a $40-50M+ municipal contract with potential extension, and you’ll work alongside an experienced Senior PM on multiple concurrent sites across Houston. If you know how the City operates, understand municipal paperwork and inspections, and have built relationships with City representatives, this role is built for you.
What You Will Run
- Support lead PM in managing multiple simultaneous street repair and infrastructure sites across Houston
- Serve as primary liaison between the contractor and City of Houston representatives, attending site meetings, coordinating inspections, and driving punch-out completion
- Manage project documentation, submittals, RFIs, daily reports, and compliance paperwork per City of Houston requirements
- Track progress across concurrent sites and keep work moving at pace
- Coordinate subcontractors and field crews on assigned sites
- Ensure all City of Houston procedural and administrative requirements are met
What It Takes
- 5 to 7+ years of construction experience with meaningful time working directly with or for City of Houston contractors
- Prior experience with street repairs, utilities, or municipal infrastructure strongly preferred
- Solid familiarity with City of Houston project administration processes: permitting, inspections, daily reporting, and inspector relationships
- Experience as PM on smaller City of Houston jobs ($5M-$15M range) is perfectly acceptable; this role functions as assistant-level within a larger program
- Background in rolled/compacted concrete or highway work alone is not a fit; municipal city work experience is the differentiator
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree is a plus but not required if field experience is strong
Compensation
Junior/Assistant PM (5-7 years): $90,000 to $130,000. Senior/More Experienced: $130,000+ commensurate with experience. Compensation is flexible for the right candidate with strong City of Houston experience.
