The Role
A self-performing contractor in Central Texas is searching for an experienced Controller to lead all accounting operations across two consolidated entities with combined annual revenue exceeding $200 million. This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the CFO, offering meaningful influence over financial strategy, direct access to ownership, and the autonomy to operate as a true financial partner. If you are a CPA with 10+ years of progressive construction accounting experience and deep expertise in percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, this is a stable, well-established platform to run a mature accounting function.
What You Will Run
Financial Reporting and Close
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes for consolidated financial statements across both entities
- Prepare and publish monthly financial statements and management reports for CFO and ownership
- Manage consolidating entries, intercompany eliminations, and general ledger reconciliation
- Oversee revenue recognition under ASC 606, including percentage-of-completion accounting for construction contracts
- Maintain and review WIP schedules, job cost reports, and contract profitability analysis
Fixed Assets, Leases, and Debt
- Manage fixed asset subledger including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and GL reconciliation
- Administer lease accounting under ASC 842 for financing and operating leases
- Maintain debt schedules across all long-term facilities, including amortization, covenant tracking, and lender reporting
- Coordinate lender compliance reporting and ensure adherence to financial covenants
Tax, Compliance, and Audit
- Prepare and file monthly Texas sales and use tax returns
- Coordinate Texas franchise tax provisions and filings with external advisors
- Research and document technical accounting issues to ensure US GAAP compliance
- Manage external audit relationships and coordinate audit preparation
Team Leadership
- Mentor a newly hired staff accountant and oversee the accounting team
- Benefit from a structured handoff from a long-tenured Controller
What It Takes
- CPA with 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience in construction
- Deep command of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and ASC 606
- Hands-on expertise in consolidated financial reporting, lease accounting (ASC 842), and debt management
- Ability to operate with significant autonomy while serving as the CFO’s primary financial partner
- Maturity, judgment, and the communication skills to influence strategy and mentor staff
Comp and Benefits
- Base Salary: $150,000 to $170,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- Discretionary year-end bonus based on individual and company performance
