Amundson Group
Senior Project Engineer, Arizona
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring Senior Project Engineers in Arizona who are ready to step into Project Manager roles fast. If you have 5-8 years in heavy civil construction and want real ownership of major infrastructure projects, this is a performance-based path to advancement.
What You Will Run
You will start as a Senior Project Engineer supporting large-scale heavy civil work: roadway, concrete, earthwork, paving, and infrastructure projects. Day one includes coordinating with field teams and subcontractors, managing RFIs and submittals, tracking schedules and budgets, and ensuring quality control.
As you prove yourself, responsibility grows fast. High performers transition into managing full scopes of work, then entire projects. You will own project planning, scheduling, financial performance, subcontractor management, and client relationships from preconstruction through closeout.
What It Takes
- 5-8 years in construction, ideally heavy civil (earthwork, roadway, concrete, infrastructure)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Experience with heavy civil contractors strongly preferred
- Comfort in fast-paced, field-driven environments
- Willingness to travel and relocate for project assignments
A strong DOT background and familiarity with state DOT processes (ADOT preferred) is a significant advantage. Candidates from asphalt, paving, or adjacent specialties will be considered if skills translate.
The Role and Culture
This is not a static position. Leadership operates on a performance-based advancement model. You get autonomy, not micromanagement. Teams value ownership mentality, accountability, and hands-on problem solving. Work is project-driven and mobile across Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Lake Havasu) and other U.S. sites, with occasional international assignments.
Compensation and Travel
Senior Project Engineer base: approximately 100K to 120K depending on experience. Project Manager roles are competitive, typically 120K to 150K based on experience and responsibility.
Project-based assignments include per diem (approximately 120 per day for domestic travel), company-paid temporary housing (hotel or Airbnb), and relocation assistance. You can choose housing covered plus reduced per diem, or full per diem for self-managed housing.
Why Apply Now
The contractor has immediate need for 3-5 Senior Project Engineers across multiple active and upcoming projects. If you want to move from engineer to project manager in a firm that rewards performance and gives you real responsibility, this is the opportunity.
