A self-performing contractor is hiring a Water Superintendent to lead field operations on a major water infrastructure project in the Lorton, VA area. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing both company crews and subcontractors on complex, federally-funded work. What You Will Run
You will oversee all field operations to keep the project on schedule, on budget, and in compliance with contract documents. Your scope includes supervising the installation of self-performed and subcontracted work, managing the sequence and schedule of construction, controlling field costs, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met across the entire team.
- Develop and execute the project work plan and schedule, updating monthly
- Supervise field workforce and subcontractors to ensure cost-efficient, compliant execution
- Implement and enforce safety programs, conduct regular inspections, and take corrective action
- Monitor material and equipment delivery against critical path schedules
- Manage submittal schedules and coordinate with owner, engineers, and trades
- Train and develop Assistant Superintendents and Project Engineers
- Resolve scope conflicts and participate in project management functions
- Oversee punch list completion and participate in marketing presentations
What It Takes
- 8 to 10+ years of water/wastewater construction experience with a large commercial contractor or equivalent
- Proven track record building federal or government projects from start to finish
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Deep knowledge of construction scheduling, contract administration, equipment, and manpower planning
- Demonstrated ability to lead field operations and manage multiple trades
- Working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulations
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, adaptable, and accountable. You thrive under pressure, build strong relationships, and execute with integrity
The Physical and Work Environment
This is an active, hands-on role. You will spend significant time on active construction sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. Expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating all weather conditions and moderate to loud noise levels. The work requires a full range of motion including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You will frequently lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. You will also spend time in the office on computer work, document review, and meetings. This is a high-performance environment that demands flexibility to work extended hours during critical project phases and responsiveness to communications outside regular hours.
Compensation
130,000 to 165,000 per year, based on experience.
