A self-performing contractor is hiring a Foreman to lead underground utility installation projects across Virginia. This is hands-on leadership work: you’ll run crews, operate heavy equipment, and own daily production on water main, sewer, and storm drainage jobs. If you’ve got 6-10 years in the trades and want to step into a leadership role where you’re still in the dirt alongside your crew, this is the move.
What You Will Run
You’ll oversee all aspects of job site operations, from planning and scheduling daily tasks to managing subcontractors and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Your crew will install ductile and PVC water mains, gravity sewer systems, storm drainage, conduits, and duct banks. You’ll calculate grades, read plans and surveys, lay out stakes, and operate equipment including bulldozers, trackhoes, backhoes, loaders, and skid steers. You’ll also work as an operator while leading the site, hitting daily production goals and solving problems as they come up.
What It Takes
- 6-10 years of hands-on experience installing water mains, sewer, storm drainage, and related site work.
- High school diploma or GED minimum.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- Ability to calculate grade elevations, volumes, and material tonnage.
- Proficiency reading blueprints, survey data, and site plans.
- Experience with demolition, clearing, grading, excavation, roadwork, and asphalt paving.
- Concrete experience is a plus.
- Strong leadership skills and willingness to pitch in and get hands dirty.
- Self-motivated, solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to pass a drug screening test.
