A self-performing heavy civil contractor in North Carolina is hiring a Senior Estimator to lead bid development on complex sitework and infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role that sits at the center of project acquisition, requiring deep technical knowledge, vendor management discipline, and the ability to move fast under deadline pressure. What you will run
You will own estimates from pre-bid through post-award handoff. That means reviewing plans and specs, conducting site visits, managing subcontractor and vendor quotes, performing quantity takeoffs, building cost models, and presenting findings to leadership on bid day. You will coordinate with other estimators, attend plan reviews, and support value engineering and change order analysis after award. You will also visit active projects to validate assumptions and feed lessons learned back into future estimates.
What it takes
- 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and hands-on experience
- 5+ years estimating, engineering, or field experience in heavy civil sitework construction
- Strong knowledge of earthwork cut/fill, excavation support systems, deep foundations, and groundwater dewatering
- Proficiency in AGTEK, Excel, Outlook, and Word. HCSS experience preferred
- Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents with confidence
- Solid math skills and the discipline to perform accurate quantity surveys and cost calculations
- Familiarity with construction equipment, rental rates, and means/methods for heavy civil work
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within an estimating team
- Proactive, organized, and able to juggle multiple estimates and deadlines
- Safety-minded approach to budgeting and estimating
Compensation and benefits
$125,000 to $155,000 per year, based on experience. Health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
