The Opportunity
A self-performing heavy civil and general construction contractor is scaling aggressively in Arizona and seeking an established VP of Operations to lead the entire state. You will manage a portfolio of 7-8 active projects representing $50-70M+ in annual volume, with significant autonomy to shape the office location, build your leadership team, and drive strategic growth across the market.
What You Will Run
- All Arizona operations from administrative and field leadership perspectives
- Multiple concurrent projects across the state, ranging in scale but numerous in count
- A team of project managers, engineers, and superintendents working across the portfolio
- Production standards, cost discipline, and GC-side best practices across all jobs
- Senior contractor relationships, quality delivery, and client representation
- Office site selection and operational buildout for the Arizona division alongside company leadership
- Strategic market growth initiatives in partnership with executive leadership
What It Takes
- Contractor background required. GC experience is non-negotiable.
- Minimum senior PM level with proven ability to manage multiple projects, multiple engineers, and multiple superintendents simultaneously
- Experience running large-scale work ($40M+ projects)
- Background with a major heavy civil contractor strongly preferred (Granite, Ames, Flatiron, Kiewit-type firms)
- Estimating experience strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of production, costs, and field operations from the contractor’s perspective
- Established professional with a track record at a high level, not an up-and-comer
- Willingness to travel regularly within Arizona; some out-of-state travel expected
Compensation
Base salary approximately $250K, with flexibility based on candidate profile and cost of living considerations. Compensation will not be a limiting factor for the right leader.
Location
Queen Creek/Phoenix area initially, with input on permanent office location. This is a roaming role across Arizona projects.
