A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring a Project Engineer to own documentation, quality control, and field coordination on active projects across Texas. This is a hands-on role where you’ll bridge the gap between the office and the field, keeping projects moving and stakeholders aligned.
What you will run
- Create and manage all project documentation: submittals, RFIs, change orders, notifications, and correspondence
- Plan and lead weekly project meetings with field staff, covering current work, bids, staffing, and equipment logistics
- Review project plans and drawings for compliance with engineering standards, company specs, and contract requirements
- Serve as the initial field contact for means and methods questions and coordinate requests between the General Superintendent and Project Manager
- Prepare analytical reports for management on project status and performance
- Work continuously with Project Managers, General Superintendent, and field crews to identify and address project needs
What it takes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be the voice between the office, field, owners, subs, and vendors.
- Ability to command meetings and keep people focused and informed
- Solid grasp of heavy civil construction plans, drawings, and specifications
- Detail-oriented approach to quality control and documentation
- Willingness to be in the field regularly and work alongside the crew
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once
Compensation and benefits
$80,000 to $90,000 per year, based on experience.
