A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring a Project Engineer to lead field execution on DOT roadway and transportation projects across North Carolina. This is a field-based role where you’ll own quality, coordination, and documentation on infrastructure work that matters. If you have 2+ years on DOT projects and a civil engineering degree, this is a direct path to grow as a project leader.
What You Will Run
- Daily field operations on DOT roadway and infrastructure projects, working alongside Superintendents and Project Managers
- Layout, surveying, and grade verification to keep work on spec and on schedule
- Quality control and DOT compliance monitoring across all work phases
- RFIs, submittals, change orders, and daily reporting to keep the office and field aligned
- Quantity tracking, production metrics, and manpower coordination
- Project documentation, scheduling updates, cost tracking, and closeout support
- Safety and site compliance oversight
What It Takes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- 2+ years of hands-on DOT project experience required
- Strong knowledge of roadway construction, grading, drainage, utilities, and paving
- Ability to read civil drawings and interpret DOT specifications and standards
- Experience with project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- EIT certification preferred but not required
Compensation and Details
80,000 to 90,000 per year, based on experience. Field-based role in North Carolina.
