Estimator-Heavy Highway

The Role

A self-performing highway and asphalt contractor in Florida is hiring an experienced Estimator to lead bid preparation on roadway, bridge, and paving projects ranging from $1M to $25M. This is a hands-on estimating role where your accuracy and market knowledge directly impact win rates and project profitability. You will own the full estimate lifecycle, from plan review through final bid delivery.

What You Will Run

• Read and analyze plans, specifications, RFPs, and project documents to develop competitive estimate packages.
• Solicit and compile subcontractor and vendor quotes into detailed bid packages.
• Prepare final contract estimates for asphalt paving, roadway rehabilitation, earthwork, and site development projects.
• Review and validate labor, equipment, and material costs against established department standards.
• Assess construction risks and exposures, reflecting them accurately in cost analysis.
• Identify value-engineering alternatives and potential construction issues early in the estimating process.
• Prepare reports and analysis for management as requested.

What It Takes

• Minimum 5 years of estimating experience bidding asphalt paving and roadway construction projects.
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Proven track record estimating DOT and roadway projects as a General Contractor estimator.
• Proficiency in HCSS or equivalent estimating software.
• Strong ability to read blueprints and interpret technical specifications.
• Working knowledge of asphalt laydown and roadway construction operations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail with spreadsheets and data analysis.

Compensation and Benefits

$125,000 to $175,000 per year, based on experience and performance.
