Heavy Civil Estimator
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring an Estimator to lead cost analysis and bidding strategy on underground utility and municipal infrastructure projects across Texas. This is a direct-hire role offering real technical depth and career stability in a growing market.
What you will run
You will own the estimating function for commercial, residential, municipal, and highway construction projects focused on underground utilities, water, sewer, and storm systems. Your day includes:
- Analyzing blueprints, geotechnical reports, and project documentation to build detailed time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Preparing vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluating cost effectiveness across the project lifecycle.
- Coordinating with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and Owners on change orders, cost adjustments, and contract updates.
- Developing cost monitoring and reporting systems, tracking actual spend against bid throughout execution.
- Calculating labor, equipment, and materials costs for detailed estimates; attending pre-bid and project meetings as needed.
- Conducting cost reduction studies and establishing standard hour data to improve future bids.
What it takes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent field experience.
- Minimum 5 years of civil construction and underground utility estimating experience.
- Solid understanding of geotechnical investigations and heavy equipment capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (HCSS-Heavy Bid or AG-tek preferred).
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously without losing detail.
- Strong negotiation skills, interpersonal presence, and results-driven mindset.
Compensation
130,000 to 140,000 per year, based on experience and track record.
