Amundson Group
A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring a Senior Project Manager to lead complex data center, industrial, and telecom projects across the Southeast. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with 10-25 years of field-proven experience who can manage $10M+ projects with the same rigor they’d apply to their own business.
What You Will Run
You will own project delivery from contract signature through closeout. That means contract interpretation, change order pricing, budget management, RFI and submittal strategy, schedule prosecution, and daily field execution oversight. You will work 3-4 days per week on-site at project locations in Alabama and Georgia, with travel to other regions as needed for major contracts. You cannot manage what you cannot see.
The Six Core Competencies
- Contract and Scope: You break down every contract to identify free work and hidden requirements before they become problems.
- Change Order Management: You price field changes yourself, calculate costs accurately, and protect margins without office intervention.
- Budget and Cost Control: You verify every subcontractor invoice against actual work performed. You manage company money like your own checkbook.
- Communication: You handle RFIs, submittals, and owner correspondence professionally with Fortune 500 clients.
- Scheduling: You build schedules that track work by the hour, not the month. You can use Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, or draw a critical path on graph paper if needed.
- Build Execution: You know how to physically build the job. You understand construction math. You know a 40-ton truck hauls roughly 20 bank cubic yards, not 38.
What It Takes
You have 10-25 years managing heavy civil projects: data centers, heavy industrial, or telecom work. You are field-first. You have actually built the work you now manage. You are proficient in scheduling software (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6) and estimating tools (RSMeans, unit-price spreadsheets). You have managed unit-price, time-and-materials, and cost-plus contracts. You are comfortable with out-of-town work and can relocate for a 1-2 year trial period if needed.
You are honest about what you do not know. You dress professionally. You do not job-hop. You respect the integrity of the industry and do not poach from peer firms. You show up to work ready to lead.
Compensation and Benefits
$125,000 to $155,000 per year, based on experience. For out-of-town projects, a flat per diem of $3,000-$3,300 per month. You make your own decisions on accommodations.
Location
Office base in Alpharetta, Georgia. Primary field work in Bridgeport, Alabama and Douglasville, Georgia, with travel to projects across the Southeast and beyond as needed.
