A self-performing contractor in the asphalt and heavy construction space is hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic for their Rock Hill, South Carolina operations. This is a hands-on role where you’ll keep mission-critical equipment running on job sites across the region. What You Will Run
You’ll perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a fleet of heavy equipment including asphalt pavers, milling machines, motor graders, and other construction machinery. Your days will include diagnosing mechanical problems, executing repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical components. You’ll also handle welding and fabrication work as needed.
This is field-based work. You’ll be issued a service truck and expected to travel within roughly an hour to an hour and a half radius of Rock Hill to reach job sites. Summer hours run 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; winter hours are 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. You must be willing to work nights and weekends as the schedule demands.
What It Takes
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in heavy equipment mechanics, with solid knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulics
- Proficiency with pavers, skid steers, Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, and similar equipment
- Your own tools, and the ability to use a full range of shop equipment including hoists, grinders, welders, and precision mechanic tools
- Ability to diagnose problems and make appropriate adjustments, repairs, or replacements across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, engine, transmission, and drivetrain systems
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company MVR requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Willingness to maintain a clean work environment and follow safe practices
- Ability to communicate clearly with the shop foreman and complete required record keeping in company software
- Background check and drug test required
Asphalt industry experience is a plus.
Comp and Benefits
Five days of PTO annually, plus time off between Christmas and New Year’s. Standard benefits package begins the first of the month after 30 days of employment.
