A self-performing heavy civil contractor is hiring Senior Project Engineers in Arizona who are ready to step into Project Manager roles fast. If you have 5-8 years in construction and want real ownership of major infrastructure work, this is a growth track built for you.
What You Will Run
You will start as a Project Engineer supporting large-scale heavy civil projects, roadway, concrete, earthwork, paving, and infrastructure work. You will coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. You will manage RFIs, submittals, schedules, and project documentation. You will track costs, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and ensure quality control and compliance.
As you prove yourself, you will transition into Project Manager responsibilities. That means leading project planning and scheduling, owning financial performance and budget control, managing subcontractors and client relationships, and driving delivery from preconstruction through closeout. High performers run portions of projects independently and take full ownership once ready.
What It Takes
- 5-8 years of construction experience, ideally in heavy civil (earthwork, roadway, concrete, infrastructure)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Ability to work in fast-paced, field-driven environments
- Strong preference for DOT experience and familiarity with state DOT processes
- Ownership mentality, accountability, and hands-on problem solving
- Willingness to travel and relocate for project opportunities
Candidates from adjacent backgrounds like asphalt and paving will be considered if your skills translate to heavy civil work.
Where You Will Work
Work is project-driven and mobile. You will be based in Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Lake Havasu) with potential assignments across the U.S. and international project sites. “Remote” means working on-site at project locations, not from home.
Comp and Travel
Senior Project Engineer base range is approximately 100K to 120K depending on experience. Project Manager compensation is competitive based on experience and responsibility level, ranging 120K to 150K. Project-based roles include per diem (approximately 120 per day for domestic travel), company-paid temporary housing (hotel or Airbnb), and relocation assistance. You can choose housing covered with reduced per diem or full per diem for self-managed housing.
