Paving Superintendent

A self-performing contractor in the Denver area is hiring a Paving Superintendent to lead daily asphalt paving operations on CDOT, FAA, municipal, and mainline projects. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll manage crews, coordinate equipment and materials, and own quality and safety from the field. If you have 2+ years of heavy civil paving experience and want to run operations for a growing team, this is your role.

What You Will Run

  • Lead and supervise paving crews including operators, laborers, and truck drivers on active job sites.
  • Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, quality, and safety performance in real time.
  • Coordinate paving operations with trucking, asphalt plants, and support crews to keep work flowing.
  • Oversee paving equipment operation: pavers, rollers, tack trucks, and related machinery.
  • Ensure proper paving procedures including mat depth, temperature control, joint construction, and compaction to spec.
  • Verify grade, alignment, smoothness, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Manage equipment, tools, and materials availability before work begins each day.
  • Adjust work plans based on weather, site conditions, and material availability.
  • Identify and resolve field issues related to equipment, materials, or production quickly.
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards, conduct daily safety meetings, and inspect for hazards.
  • Maintain daily reports on labor, equipment usage, and production quantities.
  • Collect and submit truck tickets and delivery documentation.
  • Communicate progress, delays, and concerns to Project Managers and Project Superintendents.
  • Serve as primary field representative with inspectors, owners, and contractors during paving operations.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and other trades on site.
  • Ensure proper traffic control and site cleanliness.

What It Takes

  • Minimum 2 years of heavy civil construction experience with CDOT, FAA, municipal, or mainline paving projects.
  • Strong leadership and crew management skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and make decisions in the field.
  • Strong computer skills including tablet-based reporting and equipment/time entry systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and flexible schedules as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding activities.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.

  • Salary: $65,000 – $110,000 depending on experience.
